It was a meeting of the tallest and the smallest when players from the Fresno State Men's and Women's basketball teams came to visit oncology patients at Children's Hospital Central California. The players took time between finals and games to make the day a little brighter for the kids.
"This is really something for our players," said Fresno State Basketball Coach Steve Cleveland, "It's an important thing." For the past two years the team has held a special Christmas party for Children's oncology patients at the Save Mart Center. This year the party came to the kids.
Players from both teams met with patients in Children's outpatient oncology practice, as well as the Starship Craycroft, the inpatient oncology unit. They played video games, signed autographs, and handed out tiny toy bulldogs. The wrapped up their visit by walking through the halls singing Christmas carols.
"It just makes you reconsider what you think of as hard," said one player. "We're thinking it's tough to take finals, make practice and play, but what these kids are dealing is harder. They're pretty tough."
