Dr. Shari Langer joined Valley Children’s in July 2012 as a pediatric psychologist. She provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient psychological services to children/adolescents with oncological and hematological conditions. She also participates in the general consult service and provides after-hours/on-call coverage for behavioral health emergencies.
Dr. Langer has presented on various topics in her field at Valley Children’s and nationally. Her professional membership includes the American Psychological Association (APA), and APA Division 54 (Society of Pediatric Psychology). She serves on the Hospital’s Palliative Care Steering Committee (PCSC), to foster comfort and quality of life in patients with life threatening illnesses, and the Caregiver’s Case Review Committee, to give staff a forum to confidentially process issues associated with caring for seriously ill patients. In addition, she has volunteered at oncology camps for cancer patients and their siblings and has pursued research in this area.
Dr. Langer received her doctorate in clinical psychology at Long Island University/C.W. Post Campus in Brookville, N.Y. She completed her internship in pediatric/child clinical psychology at the Franciscan Hospital for Children in Boston, Mass., and a pediatric psychology postdoctoral fellowship at Children’s Hospital of Orange County in Orange, Calif. Her clinical interests include adjustment/coping with chronic illness, pain management, anxiety/depressive disorders, parent guidance and palliative care.
