Board certified in neurosurgery by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and pediatric fellowship-trained, Dr. Patricia Clerkin joined Valley Children’s in July 2011 as a pediatric neurosurgeon. Her areas of interest include brain and spinal cord tumors, congenital spine and brain malformations, craniofacial disorders, peripheral nerve tumors and disorders, spinal instrumentation, hydrocephalus, shunts and endoscopy, pediatric brain and spinal cord trauma.
Dr. Clerkin came to Valley Children’s from Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire, where she served as an instructor of neurosurgery since 2007. She has published her work in various peer-reviewed publications such as “Journal of Neurosurgery Pediatrics,” “Journal of Neurosurgery” and “Molecular Brain Research.”
Dr. Clerkin is a member of several professional societies, including the AANS Section of Pediatric Neurosurgery, National Neurotrauma Society, American Association of Neurological Surgeons, and Congress of Neurological Surgeons. She has also participated in community and international organizations, such as the Craniofacial Teaching Clinic, National Pediatrics Hospital, in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Dr. Clerkin grew up in California and attended University of California – Berkeley with a major in the neurosciences. She completed her medical degree at New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York. She did her internship in surgery and her residency in neurosurgery at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire. She also did postdoctoral training as a research fellow at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. She completed fellowships in pediatric neurosurgery at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Ontario in Canada and at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
