Board certified in pediatric emergency medicine, Dr. Shehma Khan joined Valley Children’s as a pediatric emergency physician in July 2010.

Prior to coming to Valley Children’s, Dr. Khan volunteered his medical services to aid indigent populations. This included serving as a volunteer attending physician at the Memphis Clinic, a free nonprofit health center in Memphis, Tennessee, and assisting the attending physician at the UMMA Free Clinic in Los Angeles, California.

Dr. Khan has presented at national and regional conferences on research topics including closed manipulation of distal radial fractures by pediatric emergency physicians, and incidence of heartburn and dyspeptic symptoms in children diagnosed with GERD in infancy. He has also lectured on transverse myelitis, procedural sedation, head injuries, and posterior urethral valves presenting as severe hyponatremia in neonates.

Dr. Khan earned his medical degree from JSS Medical College, in Mysore, India. He completed a pediatric residency at the University of Nevada School of Medicine in Las Vegas. He did a fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis. Dr. Khan’s professional activities include membership in the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Medical Association. His personal interests include basketball, soccer, surfing, swimming and horseback riding. He also enjoys doing home improvement projects and volunteering at charitable organizations.
