Celebrating Simulation in Healthcare Week, Sept. 17-21

Valley Children’s is celebrating Simulation in Healthcare Week this week to raise awareness of this life-saving, hands-on educational tool and celebrate the contributions that simulation makes to healthcare.

Created in 2015, Valley Children’s Interprofessional Education Simulation Program includes all members of our pediatric healthcare team. Its purpose is to review, develop and refine clinical skills through hands-on simulations with high-fidelity mannequins which are treated as actual patients. During these simulations, teams practice responding to common medical procedures, complex medical conditions and life-threatening emergencies. Each simulation is reviewed to ensure best practices are used – leading to the best care for the children we serve. Our simulation program also identifies any gaps in training or practice so that new guidelines and programs can be developed to improve care.

In addition to organizing regular simulation training opportunities, Valley Children’s simulation team regularly presents at national and international conferences, including recent presentations:

  • January 2018 – Society of Simulation in Healthcare International meeting in Los Angeles highlighting the use of simulation training for transport and for Valley Children’s ECMO program.
  • September 2018 – Presenting simulation for ECMO at the ELSO meeting in Baltimore.

Join us in celebrating Valley Children’s Interprofessional Education Simulation Program, led by Medical Director Tara Lemoine, D.O., and Kim Bilskey, Clinical Education Specialist.
