(Madera, Calif.) – Graduates from Valley Children’s Pediatric Residency Program, affiliated with Stanford University School of Medicine, were recently featured in the fall 2020 edition of the Fresno Madera Medical Society’s Central Valley Physician Magazine.
The feature highlights two recent graduates, Dr. Devon Ward and Dr. Albert Vu, who both graduated as part of Valley Children’s inaugural class of pediatric residents this past June. Both physicians have chosen to remain in the area as part of Valley Children’s network. Dr. Ward has joined the Valley Children’s family as a pediatrician at Sky Park Pediatrics in Fresno, while Dr. Vu cares for patients as a complex care pediatrician at the Charlie Mitchell Children’s Center on the Valley Children’s Hospital campus in Madera.
“I’m proud to be a part of this community and feel that it was very important for me to stay here and give back,” Dr. Ward said in the feature article.
Both physicians are contributing to delivering on one of the program’s key goals: to help remedy the shortage of physicians in the Valley by encouraging residents who train here to stay here after graduation. With a retention rate of 50%, Valley Children’s Pediatric Residency Program is asserting its commitment to this goal, and its role in impacting long-term progress in pediatric health issues in the Valley.
To this end, Dr. Jolie Limon, Valley Children’s Chief of Pediatrics, emphasizes the program’s role in not only creating more access for the children of the Central Valley, but in creating physician leaders and advocates.
“Our program recognizes the value in physicians caring not just for patients’ medical needs, but about the larger issues that impact our children’s communities and their physical and mental health as well,” Dr. Limon said. “By working together with patients, families, and local and regional partners, we can help affect lasting change for the better in our Valley.”
