Drivers, Start Your Engines!

Local news station KMPH recently shined a spotlight on the innovative work in Valley Children's Hospital Perioperative Department. Six remote-controlled cars are part of the new iDrive program, which creates a fun surgery experience in hopes of decreasing sedation and easing fears for children going into a procedure. The kids can pick out a car to “drive” to the operating room – even getting their very own driver’s license to make the experience extra special.

These cars – all donated – are possible because of the collaboration and teamwork of individuals and departments. RN Shelly Reyes, the originator behind the George’s Pass program, also spearheaded the iDrive project. Pediatric surgeon Dr. Douglas Tamura personally sponsored a car, as did the Pediatric Anesthesia Medical Group, in honor of the late Dr. Greaves. Additional cars were sponsored by George’s Pass, all were assembled by Valley Children's Plant Operations team and the finishing logos and graphics were installed by Valley Children's Marketing team.
